The Co-Chairs of the Economic Working Group of the International Follow-up Committee on Libya, met on Thursday with the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), Siddiq Al-Kabir, and a Governor consultant representing the CBL Deputy Governor, Ali Al-Hibri, to discuss progress on reunification of CBL and continuing essential expenditures for the priority needs of the Libyan people.

In a statement, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said that the Co-Chairs, (the European Union, Egypt, the United States and the UNSMIL), stressed the need for the continued independence of sovereign institutions such as the CBL and the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and urged the authorities to ensure that the NOC is well resourced to boost production amidst high oil prices for the stability of Libya.

The Co-Chairs also emphasized the need for transparency in government expenditures to ensure they are well-managed for the benefit of the Libyan people.
