Egyptian exporters of construction materials are expanding into the Libyan market as the demand for reconstruction surges following the ongoing crisis in Lebanon, according to Walid Gamal El-Din, head of the Egyptian Export Council for Building Materials and Metal Industries.
In remarks to the Al Arabiya TV channel, Gamal El-Din highlighted that Libyan buyers have placed significant orders for building materials, including cement, to meet the needs of the country’s reconstruction efforts.
The influx of trucks transporting materials has caused congestion at the Egyptian-Libyan border. Egypt’s cement exports to Libya surged by 74% in 2024, reaching over $89 million compared to around $52 million during the same period last year, reflecting Libya’s increased demand amid its rebuilding phase.
