Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty has reiterated Cairo’s commitment to assisting Libyan parties in reaching a consensus, strengthening the Libyan-led political process, and ensuring respect for state institutions to facilitate presidential and parliamentary elections.
During a meeting in Cairo on Tuesday with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya, Hana Tetteh, Abdel Aty congratulated her on her new role and expressed Egypt’s willingness to cooperate in supporting a sustainable resolution to the Libyan crisis.
A statement from Egypt’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday highlighted Abdel Aty’s call for the withdrawal of all foreign forces, fighters, and mercenaries from Libya within a set timeframe to safeguard the country’s unity and stability.
Tetteh’s visit to Cairo marks her first official foreign trip since assuming the position of UN envoy to Libya.
