The Egyptian Minister of Electricity, Mohammed Shaker, said Cairo intends to increase power connection with Libya to 2000 megawatts (MW), adding to Egypt News Daily that Cairo proposed to Libya to increase voltage from 220 to 500 kv. as a first phase to complete electric connection of North African countries.

The Egyptian Minister said exchanging electric power with Libya needs lots of measures in the coming period as two lines will be established: Saloum-Tobruk for 220 and 500 kv. in addition to Tobruk generation station for 500 kv.

"The Libya-Egypt Electricity Connection Project starts from Wadi Al-Nathron and October 6th to Marsa Matrouh, and Saloum, and then ends in Tobruk." Shaker added.
