Libya's ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Taher El Sonni discussed with Kenya, Gabon, Mozambique and Ghana counterparts the latest developments in Libya and the appointment of a new UN envoy to Libya, in addition to the ongoing efforts to break the political deadlock.

El Sonni said during the meeting on Monday that Libya continues to support the African Group and reiterated the need to unite all stances and carry out joint coordination at UN Security Council (UNSC) regarding appointing a new Libya envoy as soon as possible.

The meeting came as part of consultations ahead of Tuesday UNSC session which should have an open briefing statement on Libya followed by a closed consultation session.
