Turkey will explore for hydrocarbons in Libyan waters following the MoU signed with Libya, the New York-based media Co. Bloomberg quoted President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying.

Erdogan reiterated his rejection of the EU's criticism of its move to expand energy cooperation with Libya, highlighting that the accord was struck in 2019 with an internationally recognized government.

"With the hydrocarbon agreement we have signed with Libya, we created a new area of cooperation in the extraction of oil and its derivatives from the continental shelf of this country," Erdogan said.

Following a cabinet meeting on Monday, Erdogan also disclosed that Turkey has started working with Azerbaijan to double the capacity of the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline, which he said was of critical importance.
