Executive Vice President-Designate of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans said Friday that the EU is considering appointing the former Italian Interior Minister, Marco Minetti as a European envoy to Libya.

The EU official explained that the nomination of Minetti as a special envoy to Libya shows the geopolitical dimension of the European Commission, as he put it.

He emphasized that Minetti's experience would serve to build a reasonable European policy that would make Libya a major priority for the European Union as a whole, and not just in immigration issues.
