The European Union has announced intention to continue its mission to train the Libyan Coast Guard personnel despite strong criticism from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

"We train the Libyan Coast Guard so that they can face smugglers in coastal waters and save human beings from crises at sea". A spokeswoman for Federica Mogherini, the Europe Union foreign policy chief, was quoted as saying in Brussels on Wednesday.

The spokeswoman confirmed that the training program, which aims to train 142 members of the Libyan coastal protection force, will continue.
