The European Union (EU) removed the last Prime Minister (PM) of the former regime, Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi from the list of sanctioned individuals, imposed on Libya.

The EU had included Al-Mahmoudi on the Executive Sanctions List No. 272 in March of 2011, following accusations levied against him regarding the suppression of demonstrators during that period.

Al-Mahmoudi held the position of (PM) or what was called “Secretary of the General People’s Committee,” during the era of the reign of Gaddafi.

He sought refuge in Tunisia, however he was handed over to Libyan authorities by the Tunisians in June 2012 and subsequently was released in 2019 for humanitarian health reasons.
