Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Farhan Haq, has stated: "we want to make sure that all countries in the eastern Mediterranean are able to work productively and cooperatively with each other."

This came in response to a question regarding the UN's position on the Libyan-Turkish agreement, in a press briefing on Tuesday.

Haq added that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed the importance of avoiding measures that could increase tensions between Turkey and Greece, reiterating the need to resolve all disputes peacefully and engage in effective dialogue as a means to reduce tensions.

He also indicated that the meeting of the Greek and Turkish defense ministers in Brussels in mid-October was encouraging efforts to keep dialogue open between the two countries.
