The Attorney General has ordered the detention of a senior financial official at the Medical Supply Authority on charges of misusing 1.5 billion Libyan dinars from the authority’s budget.
According to the Attorney General’s office, 4.5 billion dinars were allocated to the authority in 2023 to cover public tenders and medicine supply contracts.
Investigations revealed that 1.5 billion dinars were diverted to pay off debts predating 2013, disrupting tenders and the supply of medicines, and impacting patients' access to essential healthcare.
The official has been referred to the indictment chamber, and investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved.
