The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity offered its condolences to Turkey on the victims of the coal mine explosion in the north of the country, which killed about 40 people.

The ministry said in a statement on Saturday that it expresses the solidarity of "the State of Libya with the Republic of Turkey as a result of the explosion at a mine in Bartin province in northern Turkey."

It wished a speedy recovery for the injured, and that "the efforts of the relevant authorities be crowned with success in reaching and rescuing those trapped."

Earlier on Saturday, Turkish Interior Minister, Süleyman Soylu announced that the death toll from the coal mine explosion had risen to at least 40, in an accident that occurred on Friday, the worst of its kind in years in Turkey.
