The French newspaper Le Monde quoted a French source as saying on Saturday, that Paris is seeking a return to stability and order in Libya by enabling Haftar to take over the country.

The source considered the war on Tripoli an attempt to undermine the peace efforts in the country, noting that Paris is facing criticism because of its position on the recent developments and the military escalation of Haftar's forces in Tripoli, according to the Le Monde.

The newspaper described the position of the French government towards what is happening in Tripoli as "the ambiguous official French position ", pointing out that Rome considered the French ongoing support as political support which contributed to the rise of Haftar.
