The German special envoy to Libya, Christian Buck, has confirmed in a tweet his support for the efforts of the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to Libya (SRSG), Abdoulaye Bathily to hold elections in Libya in 2023.
“I concur that giving the Libyan people the opportunity to choose their leaders through the ballot box is the way towards peace, stability, and prosperity”, Buck added.
He also quoted the SRSG remarks on the High-Level Panel for Elections: “The prolongation of this situation will result in continued economic collapse, political and social turmoil and increased insecurity, all of which will undermine the territorial integrity of Libya and the unity of its people”.
