Germany has extended the task of its forces in Operation IRINI to enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya.

The German parliament adopted a motion in this regard on Friday.

Around 534 lawmakers voted in favour of extending the deployment of German units for another year to support the EU mission in the Mediterranean, while 109 lawmakers voted against the motion.

The mandate will allow the German government to deploy up to 300 soldiers, two naval ships, and one reconnaissance aircraft in the region until the end of April 2023. The cost of the deployment is estimated to be around €21.8 million.
