The Government of National Unity (GNU), led by Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh, has officially begun implementing three presidential decrees issued by the Presidential Council (PC) earlier this year.
The decrees, signed by the PC head on 29 April, were formally circulated to the House of Representatives (HoR), the Cabinet, and heads of government bodies and state-owned companies, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s legal advisor, Adel Eshtiwi.
The first decree suspends the application of the Constitutional Court Law passed by the HoR. The second outlines procedures for electing a General Assembly for National Reconciliation, while the third establishes a National Commission for Referenda and Public Consultation.
The PC had sent copies of the decrees to the GNU on 8 May, requesting that they be distributed to all relevant ministries and institutions.
