The Ministry of Economy has mandated a price cap on bread, setting the cost of a loaf at 250 dirhams, or a quarter of a Libyan dinar, in a renewed effort to control rising food prices.

In a directive issued to the Municipal Guard, the Ministry emphasized that the price regulation from 2020 would remain in effect and urged authorities to enforce compliance. The move follows reports of bakeries exceeding the maximum price limit, prompting the government to take action.

The 2020 regulation, implemented by the Government of National Accord, initially set the price of a loaf of French and Libyan "Mahoar" bread at 250 dirhams, with Arabic "Shami" bread priced at 125 dirhams. This price cap comes amid growing concerns over inflationary pressures on staple goods in Libya.
