The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has called on all parties to maintain stability in Libya as an absolute priority, after the House of Representatives chose Thursday Fathi Bashagha as the new Prime Minister, while the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah , will hold on to his position until the elections.

Guterres reminded all institutions of the primary goal of organizing national elections, as soon as possible, to ensure that the political will of the 2.8 million Libyan citizens registered on electoral lists are respected.

"I call on all Libyan parties to continue to ensure that critical decisions are taken in a transparent and consensual manner," Guterres added.
