The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has expressed his deep concern regarding what he considered the grave and deteriorating humanitarian situation in Libya.

Guterres said, “I am sincerely concerned about the grave and worsening humanitarian situation in Libya,” adding in a tweet on his account, “The number of individuals in need of assistance is now estimated at approximately 1.3 million, an overall increase of around 400,000 on last year’s numbers.”

He further urged the international community to support the United Nations humanitarian response plan, in order to assist the most vulnerable in the country.
