A lawyer representing a group of plaintiffs against Haftar in the US District Court of Virginia, Mark Zaid, has described Haftar's failure to appear last Monday's court session as unacceptable, stressing that they will be requesting the Court enter an Order of default that holds him liable.

“The lawyers would seek a default judgment against him for failing to show up”, Zaid said to the British Middle East Eye (MEE), adding that “the deposition had been scheduled a month ahead of time so there was no viable excuse that he did not ensure he was available”.

Haftar was scheduled to appear in a long-sought video deposition where he was going to be asked in three separate civil lawsuits about his alleged role in the extrajudicial killings and torture of Libyan civilians in the country's decade-long civil war.
