Warlord Khalifa Haftar has received the rival prime minister Fathi Bashaga, who was appointed by the Parliament based in Tobruk, an eastern city controlled by Haftar.

Haftar's media office said the two men discussed the foreign and armed military presence on Libyan soil.

The meeting is the first to bring them together in Benghazi since Bashaga's appointment in February last year.

Bashagha's government said that besides the political developments and the foreign military presence, the two sides discussed combating terrorism, illegal immigration, and border protection.

According to the rival PM's media office, the meeting included his foreign minister Hafez Kaddour, minister of state for PM affairs, Muhammad Farhat, and the director of Haftar's office, Khairi al-Tamimi.
