Militias loyal to Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi have released Fathi Al-Baja, Libya’s former ambassador to Canada, along with three political activists after nearly a year in detention.
The Libyan Crime Watch Organization confirmed the release on Sunday, marking the end of 329 days of what they described as "arbitrary detention."
Alongside Al-Baja, the released activists include Tarek Al-Beshary, Salem Al-Areebi, and Nasser Al-Duissy. The four were arrested on October 1, 2023, by Haftar’s Internal Security Agency, following summonses for investigation.
According to reports, their detention was based on allegations tied to their political activities and organizing meetings without prior authorization.
