The Pharmacy and Medical Supplies Department at the Ministry of Health convened a meeting on Monday that grouped directors of pharmacy services in hospitals and medical centres to discuss primary issues related to the field, most notably the development of an electronic system to track vital medicines.

The officials recommended that a scientific opinion be attached to any medicine ordered outside the national list, according to the Health Ministry.

They also agreed on the need to follow up on imports, expenses, and stocks between the Ministry of Health and the pharmacy departments.

The participants exchanged notes on implementing successful policies to recycle stagnant medicines and control imports, as they emphasized that clearance from the Ministry of Health is necessary before importing or dispensing any free medicine samples, in particular, newly used ones.
