The High National Election Commission (HNEC) is studying proposals that would increase the percentage of women's participation in municipal council elections, and encourage them to seize the opportunities guaranteed by the electoral system for women in terms of distributing seats, and involving their relevant organizations involved in awareness-raising campaigns to enhance levels of participation.
This came in a meeting by HNEC Board member, Rabab Halab, at the Commission's headquarters with representatives of women organizations, in the presence of UNSMIL advisor Supporting Elections in Libya, Salina Joshi, according to an HNEC statement.
During the meeting, Halab reviewed the latest figures on women's participation and running for municipal council elections, observers and media representatives, as well as delivered voter cards.
She also reviewed opportunities and challenges facing women at this stage, and ways to overcome difficulties in enhancing their participation during the remaining stage of the electoral process.
