The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) has set January 1 as the date for holding elections for the second group of municipal councils.
The HNEC published the names of 59 municipalities in which elections are scheduled to begin early next year, urging the public administration to develop approved plans for each stage of implementation, and to take the necessary measures with regard to equipping, staffing, and financial coverage of electoral administration offices, each according to the size of the electoral process assigned to them.
Last September, the HNEC revealed the features of the municipal council election system, explaining that municipalities with a population of 25,000 people or less will have seven members in the municipal council.
