The energy committee of the Parliament (HoR) said on Saturday that it was aware of the statements made by Tunisian President Kais Saied about the Bouri oil field and the continental shelf and is preparing an official response to his comments.

A statement by President Saied on Friday that Tunisia was left with "few crumbs" from the Bouri oil field was met with rejection from the Libyan side.

The HoR committee's head, Issa Al-Arabi, told Libya News Agency they would not accept "prejudice to the wealth of Libya, which belongs to the Libyan people, under any circumstances or any justification."

Saied called for the field to be shared equally between Libya and Tunisia, stating that it could provide all the needs of Tunisia and more.

A ruling by the International Court of Justice in 1982 recognized Libya's right to sovereignty over the Bouri field.
