In an official letter addressed to the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, has ordered the freezing of all bank accounts of public entities funded by the public treasury, with the exception of salaries, until further notice.
Aguila considered this measure to be part of the House’s efforts to control and regulate financial transactions, with the aim of protecting the country's economic and financial stability, according to the letter.
This decision comes after banks in the east of the country announced closure of their branches in Tripoli in solidarity with protesters demanding the overthrow of the Government of National Unity.
