The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) welcomed the Ministry of Local Governing's affirmation that local authorities and entities can work with the ICRC, after Libyan media outlets had circulated a letter from the Ministry to a security authority showing accusations against the ICRC that it had committed transgressions affecting national security, calling for abstaining from dealing with it.

The ICRC said in a statement published on its official website that the alleged accusations cast doubt on the organization's humanitarian activities throughout the country since 2011. It also said that the Ministry of Local Governing had clarified its position and denied the previous statement.

The ICRC defended its humanitarian activities and goals in Libya, stressing its commitment to the highest levels of respect for the Libyan state, its authorities, people, institutions, laws and procedures.

It also said that it is a humanitarian, neutral, independent and unbiased organization, whose primary mission is set by all countries of the world: namely to protect and assist people affected by armed conflicts and violence.

The activities of the ICRC in Libya include supervising training courses in the field of first aid, visiting places of detention, running the Restoring Family Links Program, providing forensic expertise and assistance for the dignified management of deaths, and raising awareness about contamination caused by weapons such as unexploded remnants of war.
