Libya has the second longest operating gas pipeline network in the African continent, according to the US-based NGO Global Energy Monitor (GEM).
However, the organization, which studies the evolving international energy landscape, anticipated that Libya is due to lose its spot over the years as projects to deliver gas through pipelines to Europe are growing.
The report, published this December, revealed that Libya alone has a gas pipeline network of 6,243 km, making it second in Africa, preceded by Algeria, which runs a 13,630 km gas network.
The international report also ranked Libya fourth among the top five producers of electricity from gas in Africa, with a production capacity of 10,163 megawatts.
