The International Organization for Migration (IOM) says it is shocked by the discovery of two mass graves in Libya, containing dozens of bodies, some with gunshot wounds.
"The loss of these lives is yet another tragic reminder of the risks immigrants face as they embark on perilous journeys", IOM's Head of Libya mission Nicoletta Giordano said in a statement on Monday.
IOM urged Libyan authorities and partner UN agencies to ensure that bodies are recovered with dignity, victims are identified, and their remains are transferred, in addition to notifying and assisting their families.
