Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, has said that Libya is a strategic area for Italy, pointing out that he  urged the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, to work on holding elections in Libya.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper "La Stampa", the minister expressed his desire to visit Libya, provided there is a path leading to elections.

Tajani explained that the presence and stability of a government in Libya is necessary to curb the fight against illegal immigration, in addition to stopping abuses.
