The Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi said on Tuesday “It is the Libyan people and their broader institutions that will decide when the country should hold elections”.

At a foreign committee meeting, Milanesi added that no conference or foreign power will decide the date of Libya’s elections.

He stressed the need for elections in Libya and not to be postponed indefinitely, adding that his country will continue to promote a positive action in Libya.

He also stressed his country's keenness to keep balances in Libya, and that Italy remains determined to keep the line of dialogue open between the various political parties in the country.
