Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio stated that cooperation with Russia regarding the situation in Libya is “central”.

Speaking at a press conference in Rome with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, Di Maio stressed Italy’s commitment to achieving lasting stability in Libya, adding the importance of the withdrawal of all mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya. Di Maio reiterated the international community’s continued support for Libyan internal negotiations.

For his part, Lavrov stated that it is important in the Libyan crisis to have a gradual withdrawal of military units, noting that there is no positive development, but he stressed that the coordinated and simultaneous withdrawal of military units is important.
