Italian Deputy Foreign Minister, Marina Sereni has stated that there is an urgent need to reach consensus with the Libyans on a clear, transparent and short-term path to holding the elections.

“The postponement of the elections created a state of uncertainty. The situation in Libya is very worrying, especially at the present time”, Sereni added, noting that her country is closely following the situation there.

She stressed that setting a timeframe for elections is the only way to prevent Libya from being destabilized again, adding that “in the recent years Libya enjoyed a period of relative stability with a government that has been recognized by the international community”.
