The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Sustainable Infrastructure and Transportation in the Italian government, Matteo Salvini, said that his ministry is working on the construction of the coastal highway to connect eastern and western Libya.

According to the Italian news agency "Nova", Salvini said in radio statements that in Libya, there are several factions, but Italy promised many years ago to build infrastructure, so one of the projects is related to the construction of the highway.

He said the highway's construction had been postponed for years, adding that it could bring the warring parties closer, and he hoped that it would enable Italy to regain its leadership role.

Nova news agency said that its sources confirmed the work of Italian economic diplomacy to start the construction on the western part of the road linking Tripoli to the border with Tunisia.
