Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has described her visit to Tripoli as positive, pointing to the signing of important cooperation agreements between Libya and Italy in the fields of energy and combating illegal migration.

“Positive mission for the Italian government in Tripoli,  important agreements signed on cooperation in the fields of energy and combating migration. We also expressed full readiness to facilitate the path towards legitimate elections and stabilization of Libya”, Meloni tweeted.

Meloni arrived in Tripoli on Saturday morning, on her second visit this week to a country in the south of the Mediterranean basin, to discuss issues related to energy as well as illegal migration, and it is the first visit of a European head of state or government to Libya since the visit of her predecessor, Mario Draghi in April 2021.
