Italy is preparing to appoint Gianluca Alberini as the new Italian ambassador to Libya, to succeed the current ambassador, Giuseppe Buccino, according to the Italian Nova news agency.

Alberini will assume his position as Italian ambassador to Libya next June, while Buccino will move to the Italian embassy in Madrid, Spain.

Before serving as Principal Director for the United Nations and Human Rights for the United Nations and Human Rights at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alberini was a Commercial Counselor at the Italian Embassy in Libya in 1994, and then chaired the 2009 Global Partnership Working Group during the Italian G8 Presidency.
