A group of jobless youngsters in the desert oasis town of Maradah, northeastern Libya, threatened Sunday to close the oil fields in their region unless their demands to improve services in their town are met.

The group explained in a statement that their action aims to put pressure on the authorities in order to look into their problems urgently.

The statement complained about the absence of the state, lack of health care and services, and poor state of roads leading to their town.

Last December, unknown gunmen blew up an oil pipeline near Maradah twice.
