The Acting Head of the UN Mission, Stephanie Koury, has discussed with the Acting Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taher Al-Baour, and the Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, developments of the political situation in the country, in addition to the municipal elections file, where the importance of organizing municipal elections was emphasized as a basic step towards strengthening local governance.
The two parties praised the success of the first phase of the municipal elections held in 58 municipalities across the country, stressing the need to continue coordination to ensure the success of the second phase scheduled for early next year 2025.
The national referendum file was also reviewed and ways to enhance national inquiry mechanisms to support upcoming political options, including enhancing participation in the referendum and ensuring the integrity and transparency of the process.
