The Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Koury, met on Monday with female civil society representatives from across Libya and heard about the challenges facing women and civil society actors.
“In the context of discussing UNSMIL-facilitated Libyan-owned and led political process, they emphasized the urgent need to unify political and security institutions, to strengthen human rights including combatting violence against women, and ensure meaningful participation of women in decision-making positions”, Koury said on her X platform page.
For her part, Koury confirmed UNSMIL commitment to support women’s participation in the process.
