Libya has been elected to chair the International Olive Council (IOC) for a one-year term. The decision was made during the council’s 120th session held in Spain on Tuesday, according to Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Competing for the role, Libya faced Uruguay and the occupying state of Israel, while Iran had sought an extension of its current presidency.
Additionally, Libya received accreditation for its sensory and chemical laboratories, qualifying it to issue internationally recognized export certifications for olive oil.
The council also approved Libya’s proposal to host its next session in the capital, Tripoli.
