The head of the Therapeutic Services Support and Development Agency of the Ministry of Health, Ahmed Militan has signed a contract with Al-Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital in the Emirates to receive gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) patients.
The agency explained on its Facebook page that this step comes in implementation of the decision of the Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, and the follow-up of the Attorney General’s Office regarding the provision of gene therapy for SMA patients, including 17 children suffering from this disease.
This contract based on the recommendations of the scientific committees specializing in SMA, which are responsible for evaluating therapeutic services.
