Libya, Sudan, Niger and Chad agreed on Tuesday to establish a cooperation mechanism to secure the common border and fight transnational organized crime.
The four countries said in a joint statement at the end of their meeting in Niger’s capital Niamey that the region of southern Libya has become “a hotbed of persistent threats to these countries.”
The statement added that southern Libya has also become “a base for terrorist organizations, smugglers of all kinds and for armed rebel groups engaged in mercenary operations that further exacerbate the Libyan crisis.”
At the conclusion of their meeting, an agreement was reached that another meeting will be held at the expert level on the 3rd of May in N'Djamena to study a draft protocol on security cooperation between the four countries.
