Libya on Sunday welcomed the developments in Sudan after the Sudanese army and the paramilitaries agreed to extend the armistice and continue talks to achieve a lasting ceasefire.

A statement by the Foreign Ministry said Libya remains optimistic that the brothers in Sudan will continue to respond to calls for calm.

The statement called on the Sudanese factions to take further steps by announcing a permanent ceasefire and engaging in direct talks to reach durable stability.

The ministry said Libya "appreciates the sincere efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States and their prominent role in urging the warring Sudanese parties to reach this agreement."
