The Libyan Coast Guard rescued Tuesday 96 illegal immigrants who were stranded in the sea aboard a rickety rubber boat.

The immigrants originated from Arab and African countries and were brought to the shelter of Khoms city after providing them with humanitarian and medical assistance, according to the Libyan Navy Information Office.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) confirmed that the Libyan Coast Guard stopped two boats on Tuesday and the third one on Wednesday, with113 migrants aboard, before transferring them to the cities of Zuwara and Khoms in the west, away from the frontline in Tripoli, where they were accommodated in detention centres.
