The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that more than 21,000 migrants and refugees were intercepted and returned to Libya by the Libyan Coast Guard in 2024.
This marks a sharp increase compared to the 17,000 returned in 2023, according to IOM data.
The organization highlighted growing concerns over the rise in interception operations in the Mediterranean, despite international warnings about the difficult conditions faced by migrants in Libya.
