Kufra

Libyan human rights organizations are urging authorities to protect Sudanese displaced persons from harsh winter conditions, particularly in Kufra, which has become a hub for refugees. Jaber Bouajila from the Libyan Human Rights Organization reported that over 100,000 Sudanese displaced individuals are in Libya, with around 400 entering daily.

He criticized both eastern and western governments for failing to implement winter preparedness measures, highlighting the lack of suitable shelters in Kufra, far from major decision-making centers. Many refugees rely on relatives for temporary shelter, while the Libyan Red Crescent struggles to provide medical support to the growing number of displaced persons.

Bouajila announced that a proposal was submitted to the Presidential Council to form a committee aimed at assessing the humanitarian needs of Sudanese refugees, placing responsibility on the Government of National Unity. The International Organization for Migration notes that over 14 million Sudanese have been displaced, including 3.1 million who have crossed into neighbouring countries like Libya.
