The Libyan navy announced on June 2, the rescue of 78 illegal immigrants of African nationalities who were onboard a rubber dinghy that broke down while attempting to make their way to European shores.

The Navy said in a statement that they had responded immediately having received a distress call on Tuesday, June 2, with one of its vessels equipped with the necessary capabilities for the rescue and recovery operation heading for the rescue site, as the members of the fleet performed their duty to their fullest ability, according to the statement.

The statement indicated that following the completion of the rescue operation, the migrants were disembarked at the Tripoli Naval Base landing point and were all transferred to the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency.
