Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar held a bilateral meeting in Istanbul on Tuesday with his Italian counterpart Lorenzo Guerini to discuss several pressing issues, including the Libyan peace process.

The Turkish Ministry of Defence said that the two sides talked over developments in Afghanistan, Libya, and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Akar stressed the shared values ​​and cooperation between Turkey and Italy and the need to foster a consensual approach to the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean issue based on international law and good-neighborly relations.

Turkish Defense Ministry also noted that both sides emphasized the need to tackle all kinds of threats, especially the ISIS and FETO organizations.
