The US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, has stated that the Libyans deserve a united military capable of defending Libya's sovereignty, just as they deserve a democratically elected government that represents all Libyans.

Norland confirmed, during his participation in the plenary session of the Security Working Group (SWG) on Libya, held in Tunis, that the US supports the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG), Abdoulaye Bathily and Libyan military professionals, in their efforts to remove foreign forces, fighters and mercenaries, and unify Libya’s military.

Norland made it clear during the session, which was also attended by Bathily and the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Mohammed Al-Haddad, that his country is looking forward to partnering with such a military under the civilian authority of such a government.
